JNTU B.Tech I Year BASIC ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING Previous Question Paper (September - 2023 - R16)

B.Tech | I Year | II Semester | R16 | September - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 132AJMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

Convert the given star network into an equivalent delta network (figure 1).

2 marks

Answer

To convert a star network with resistances R1, R2, and R3 connected to nodes 1, 2, and 3 into an equivalent delta network with resistances R12, R23, and R31, the following transformation formulas are used:

R12 = (R1R2 + R2R3 + R3R1) / R3
R23 = (R1R2 + R2R3 + R3R1) / R1
R31 = (R1R2 + R2R3 + R3R1) / R2

Each delta resistance is calculated by taking the sum of the products of the star resistances taken two at a time and dividing by the star resistance that is not connected to the two nodes of the delta branch being calculated.

1b

Determine the polar form of the voltage given by

V=100 sin (100 π t + π / 6)
.

3 marks

Answer

The given sinusoidal voltage expression is in the form

v(t) = Vm sin(ωt + φ)
. By comparing this with the given expression
V = 100 sin(100πt + π/6)
, we identify the peak amplitude
Vm = 100 V
and the phase angle
φ = π/6
radians (or 30°).

To convert this to polar form, we use the RMS value of the voltage, defined as

Vrms = Vm / √2
. Calculating this gives
Vrms = 100 / 1.414 ≈ 70.71 V
. The polar form is represented as
V = Vrms ∠ φ
. Substituting the values, we get
V = 70.71 ∠ 30° V
.
