i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

PART – A

(25 Marks)

125 marks
a

Define continuous time signals and classify them.

2 marks

Answer

A continuous-time signal is a signal defined for every value of time t in a continuous interval. It is classified into several types, including: periodic and aperiodic signals, energy and power signals, deterministic and random signals, and even and odd signals.

b

What is the relation between impulse, step, ramp and parabolic signals?

3 marks

Answer

The signals are related through integration and differentiation:

r(t) = ∫ u(t) dt = t u(t)
u(t) = ∫ δ(t) dt
p(t) = ∫ r(t) dt = (t2/2) u(t)

Conversely, the impulse is the derivative of the step, the step is the derivative of the ramp, and the ramp is the derivative of the parabolic signal.
