Answer PaperPaper Code: 114CVMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

Part A

125 marks
a

Draw the circuit diagram of Darlington Pair.

2 marks

Answer

A Darlington pair consists of two cascaded bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) where the emitter of the first transistor is connected to the base of the second. The collectors are tied together. This configuration provides a very high input impedance and a current gain equal to the product of the individual gains (β1 × β2).

b

What is the expression for harmonic distortion in single stage amplifiers?

3 marks

Answer

The total harmonic distortion (THD) in a single-stage amplifier is defined by the ratio of the root-mean-square (RMS) value of all harmonic components to the RMS value of the fundamental component:

D = sqrt(D2^2 + D3^2 + D4^2 + ...)

where D2, D3, D4, etc., represent the ratios of the amplitudes of the second, third, and fourth harmonics to the amplitude of the fundamental frequency component.
