Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad B.Tech III PROCESS CONTROL INSTRUMENTATION Previous Question Paper (February - 2023 - R15)
Answer all questions in Part A. Answer any one question from each unit in Part B.
Part A
Summarize Process Variables.
Answer
Process variables are the physical or chemical parameters within a process that are measured and controlled to maintain desired operating conditions. Common examples include temperature, pressure, flow rate, and level. These variables must be monitored and adjusted by the control system to ensure product quality, safety, and efficiency.
What is meant by the interacting systems? And mention examples.
Answer
An interacting system refers to a process configuration where the dynamic behavior of one stage or tank is dependent on the state of the subsequent stage. In such systems, the output of the first stage is affected by the back-pressure or level of the second stage, meaning the stages cannot be analyzed independently because the variables are coupled.
Examples of interacting systems include:
- Two or more liquid level tanks connected in series where the flow between them depends on the difference in liquid levels.
- A multi-stage heat exchanger system where the temperature of one stage influences the heat transfer rate of the next.
- A series of gas pressure vessels connected by restricted orifices where pressure equalization occurs between stages.
List the different controllers used to realize the various control actions.
