JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech III VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTATION Previous Question Paper (February - 2023 - R16)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
PART - A
(25 Marks)
What are real systems and give some examples?
Answer
A real-time system is a computing system where the correctness of the operation depends not only on the logical result of the computation but also on the time at which the result is produced. These systems must respond to external events within strictly defined time constraints, known as deadlines.
Examples include:
- Flight control systems in aircraft.
- Industrial process control systems for manufacturing assembly lines.
- Medical monitoring equipment such as heart rate monitors.
- Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) in automobiles.
Explain data flow techniques in VI programming.
Answer
In Virtual Instrumentation (VI) programming, the data flow paradigm dictates that the execution of a node (function or subVI) is determined solely by the availability of its input data. Unlike text-based languages that follow a sequential line-by-line instruction set, a VI program executes nodes as soon as all required inputs are present at their terminals.
Key aspects of data flow include:
- Dependency: A node waits for data from upstream nodes; once all inputs are received, the node executes and passes its output to downstream nodes.
- Parallelism: If two or more nodes do not share a data dependency, they execute simultaneously, allowing for inherent multi-threading and efficient hardware resource utilization.
- Visual Representation: The flow is represented by wires connecting terminals, where the physical path of the wire indicates the logical sequence of data movement rather than the spatial position of the icons on the block diagram.
