B.Tech | II | I | R13 | April/May - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 113BRMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1.a

Define Kirchoff’s current law.

2 marks

Answer

Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) states that the algebraic sum of currents entering a node (or a junction) in an electrical circuit is zero. Alternatively, it can be stated as the sum of currents entering a junction is equal to the sum of currents leaving that junction, which is a direct consequence of the principle of conservation of charge.

Σ I = 0
1.b

What are the types of sources? Give examples.

3 marks

Answer

Electrical sources are classified into two main categories based on their ability to maintain voltage or current:

  • Independent Sources: These sources provide a specified voltage or current that is completely independent of any other element in the circuit. Examples include batteries, DC power supplies, and signal generators.
  • Dependent (Controlled) Sources: These sources provide a voltage or current whose value depends on the voltage or current elsewhere in the circuit. They are represented by diamond-shaped symbols and are common in models of transistors and operational amplifiers.

Each of these can be further categorized as either a Voltage Source, which maintains a terminal voltage, or a Current Source, which maintains a specific current flow.
