Part A
What are some common input devices used in computer graphics?
Answer
- Keyboards: The most fundamental input device, used for entering alphanumeric data, issuing commands, and controlling parameters in graphics software.
- Mouse: A primary pointing device used for cursor positioning, selecting objects, and interacting with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) through clicking and dragging.
- Graphics Tablets (Digitizers): Devices consisting of a flat surface and a stylus, allowing users to draw directly into the computer. They are highly sensitive to pressure and tilt, making them essential for digital art and CAD applications.
- Joysticks and Game Controllers: Used primarily in interactive computer graphics and gaming to provide multi-dimensional input for navigation and character control.
- Touchscreens: Integrated display devices that allow direct interaction with graphical elements using fingers or specialized pens, commonly found in mobile devices and kiosks.
- Scanners: Input devices used to convert physical images or documents into digital raster data for processing or manipulation within a graphics environment.
List out the merits and demerits of Plasma Panel Display.
Answer
- Merits:
- High Contrast and Brightness: Plasma displays offer excellent contrast ratios and deep black levels, providing a vibrant visual experience.
- Wide Viewing Angles: The image quality remains consistent even when viewed from extreme side angles, unlike many LCD technologies.
- Fast Response Time: They exhibit minimal motion blur, making them highly suitable for fast-moving video content and gaming.
- Large Screen Sizes: Plasma technology is highly effective for manufacturing large-format displays without the uniformity issues found in other flat-panel technologies.
- Demerits:
- Power Consumption: Plasma panels consume significantly more electricity compared to LED or LCD counterparts, especially when displaying bright images.
- Burn-in Vulnerability: Static images left on the screen for extended periods can cause permanent image retention, commonly known as phosphor burn-in.
- Heat Generation: Due to the gas-discharge mechanism, these displays generate substantial heat during operation.
- Weight and Thickness: They are generally heavier and thicker than modern thin-film transistor (TFT) displays, making them less convenient for wall mounting.
