JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II THERMAL ENGINEERING I Previous Question Paper (April/May - 2023 - R15)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
PART - A
Why cooling of an internal combustion engine is necessary?
Answer
Cooling is necessary to maintain engine components within safe operating temperatures, preventing thermal failure or distortion. It also ensures the lubrication oil maintains its viscosity and prevents the breakdown of the lubricating film between moving parts.
Draw the valve timing diagram of CI engine
Answer
The valve timing diagram for a CI engine typically shows the Inlet Valve Opening (IVO) at 10-20 degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC), Inlet Valve Closing (IVC) at 25-40 degrees After Bottom Dead Center (ABDC), Fuel Injection Opening at 10-20 degrees BTDC, Fuel Injection Closing at 15-25 degrees After Top Dead Center (ATDC), Exhaust Valve Opening (EVO) at 30-50 degrees Before Bottom Dead Center (BBDC), and Exhaust Valve Closing (EVC) at 10-15 degrees ATDC.
