JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II THERMAL ENGINEERING – I Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R15)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
What is the purpose of lubrication to an engine?
Answer
The primary purpose of lubrication is to reduce friction and wear between moving parts by forming a protective oil film. It also assists in cooling the engine components, sealing the piston rings, and cleaning the internal surfaces by carrying away contaminants.
What happens if the fuel is injected too early?
Answer
If fuel is injected too early, the pressure rise occurs before the piston reaches Top Dead Centre (TDC). This results in excessive peak pressures, increased mechanical stress on the engine components, high heat transfer losses, and a characteristic knocking sound due to the high rate of pressure rise.
List out four antiknock additives.
