Answer PaperPaper Code: 115AJMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

What is a deviation?

2 marks

Answer

A deviation is the algebraic difference between a size (actual, limit, etc.) and its corresponding basic size. It is the amount by which the actual dimension of a part varies from the specified nominal or basic dimension.

b

Compare and contrast interchangeable and selective assembly.

3 marks

Answer

Interchangeable assembly involves producing components within specific tolerance limits such that any part can be randomly selected from a batch and assembled without further modification. It enables mass production and easy replacement of parts but requires high-precision manufacturing.

Selective assembly involves manufacturing parts to wider tolerances and then sorting them into groups (grades) based on their actual sizes. Matching parts from corresponding groups ensures a proper fit. While it allows for lower production costs, it complicates inventory management and assembly processes.
