Random scan graphic terminal

A Random Scan Graphic Terminal, also known as a vector display, operates by directing the electron beam only along the lines of the image to be drawn. Unlike raster systems, it does not scan the entire screen. The display controller stores the drawing commands in a display list and executes them repeatedly to refresh the image. This method provides high resolution and smooth lines, making it ideal for wireframe models, though it struggles with complex solid-filled areas due to flicker issues as the number of vectors increases.
Digitizers and Image scanners

A Digitizer is an input device used to convert graphical data from physical drawings or sketches into digital coordinates. It typically consists of a flat tablet and a cursor or stylus; as the user traces the drawing, the device records the X-Y coordinates and sends them to the CAD system. An Image Scanner, by contrast, captures an entire document or image as a bitmapped grid of pixels. While digitizers are used for precise vectorization of engineering drawings, scanners are primarily used for document archiving or converting existing hard copies into raster formats that may require further processing to be editable in CAD.
