JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech III GEOINFORMATICS Previous Question Paper (August/September - 2024 - R16)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What is meant by Overlap in aerial photogrammetry?
Answer
Overlap in aerial photogrammetry refers to the common area captured between two successive photographs taken along the same flight line. It is essential for creating a continuous stereoscopic model of the terrain. Typically, forward overlap (end lap) is maintained at approximately 60% to ensure that every point on the ground appears in at least two overlapping images, enabling depth perception and 3D reconstruction.
Define Crab and drift.
Answer
Crab occurs in aerial photography when the aircraft's longitudinal axis is not aligned with its flight path (track) over the ground. This misalignment causes the rectangular format of the aerial photograph to be rotated relative to the direction of flight, resulting in a diamond-shaped coverage pattern on the ground.
Drift refers to the lateral displacement of the aircraft from its intended flight line, typically caused by crosswinds. This results in the aircraft moving along a path that is not parallel to the planned flight line, leading to a loss of side overlap between adjacent strips of photographs.
