Answer PaperPaper Code: 115ERMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define Stoichiometric quantity of air.

2 marks

Answer

The stoichiometric quantity of air is the exact theoretical amount of air required to provide sufficient oxygen for the complete combustion of a fuel, such that no excess oxygen remains and no unburnt fuel is left after the reaction.

b

Explain the concept of Mean temperature of heat addition.

3 marks

Answer

The mean temperature of heat addition is the constant temperature at which the same amount of heat could be added to a cycle to produce the same thermal efficiency as the actual cycle. It is defined as the ratio of the total heat added to the change in entropy during the heat addition process.

Tm = ∫ T dQ / ∫ dQ
