The stripping ratio is the ratio of the volume of overburden or waste rock that must be removed to the volume or weight of the ore recovered from an open-pit mine. It is expressed as cubic meters of waste per tonne of ore (m3/t) or as a dimensionless ratio.
Differentiate between underground mining and surface mining.
