B.Tech | II | I | R13 | May/June - 2019

Answer PaperPaper Code: 113CHMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

PART A

1a

Define Kirchhoff’s current law.

2 marks

Answer

Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) states that the algebraic sum of currents meeting at any junction or node in an electrical circuit is equal to zero. Alternatively, it can be stated as the sum of currents entering a node is equal to the sum of currents leaving that node, which is a direct consequence of the principle of conservation of charge.

Σ I = 0
1b

State Flemming’s Left hand rule.

3 marks

Answer

Fleming's Left Hand Rule is used to determine the direction of the force acting on a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field. It states that if the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the left hand are held mutually perpendicular to each other, then:

  • The index finger points in the direction of the magnetic field.
  • The middle finger points in the direction of the current.
  • The thumb indicates the direction of the force (or motion) exerted on the conductor.
