Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance (water for liquids, air for gases) at a specified temperature and pressure. It is a dimensionless quantity and has no units.
What is pour point? How it is different from Flash and Fire points?
Answer
The pour point is the lowest temperature at which a crude oil or petroleum product will flow under specified test conditions. In contrast, flash point is the lowest temperature at which the vapors of a liquid form an ignitable mixture with air, and fire point is the higher temperature at which the vapors will sustain combustion. While pour point relates to fluid mobility at low temperatures, flash and fire points relate to flammability and safety at high temperatures.
