JNTU MCA 2019 OPERATING SYSTEMS Previous Question Paper (December - 2019 - R17)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART - A
Compare parallel and distributed systems.
Answer
Parallel systems consist of multiple processors sharing a common memory and clock, tightly coupled to perform tasks simultaneously, typically within a single machine. In contrast, distributed systems consist of autonomous, loosely coupled computers connected via a network, each with its own local memory and operating system, working together to achieve a common goal.
Where and how data of a process is stored?
Answer
Process data is stored in the process address space, which is divided into segments: the Text segment stores the executable code, the Data segment holds global and static variables, the Heap provides memory for dynamic allocation, and the Stack manages local variables and function call frames. This data is managed by the operating system in physical memory (RAM) and swapped to disk (virtual memory) when necessary.
