JNTU B.Pharmacy I Year PHARMACEUTICAL INORGANIC CHEMISTRY-I Previous Question Paper (June/July - 2018 - R17)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
Write the principle involved in the limit test for Arsenic.
Answer
The limit test for Arsenic is based on the Gutzeit test principle. Arsenic present as an impurity is reduced to arsine gas (AsH3) by nascent hydrogen generated from zinc and hydrochloric acid. The arsine gas reacts with mercuric chloride paper to produce a yellow-brown stain, the intensity of which is compared against a standard.
Write the principle and procedure involved in the limit test for Iron.
Answer
The limit test for Iron is based on the reaction of iron in an acidic medium with thioglycollic acid in the presence of citric acid to form a purple-colored complex of ferrous thioglycollate.
Procedure: Dissolve the sample in water, add citric acid and thioglycollic acid, make alkaline with ammonia solution, and compare the intensity of the purple color produced against a standard iron solution prepared similarly.
