JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Pharmacy I BIOCHEMISTRY Previous Question Paper (June-2019 - R17)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Give a note on inhibitors of ETC.
Answer
Inhibitors of the electron transport chain (ETC) block specific complexes, preventing electron flow and ATP synthesis. Examples include Rotenone (inhibits Complex I), Antimycin A (inhibits Complex III), and Cyanide or Carbon monoxide (inhibits Complex IV).
Explain any one metabolic disorders of carbohydrates.
Answer
Galactosemia is a metabolic disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase. This leads to the accumulation of galactose-1-phosphate in tissues, causing severe symptoms like jaundice, hepatomegaly, cataracts, and mental retardation if not managed by a galactose-restricted diet.
