B.Pharmacy | I | I-II | R17 | March - 2024

Answer PaperPaper Code: 242ACMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

List the inhibitors involved in electron transport chain.

2 marks

Answer

Inhibitors of the electron transport chain (ETC) act by blocking specific complexes or the ATP synthase enzyme. The primary inhibitors include:

  • Complex I (NADH dehydrogenase) inhibitors: Rotenone, Amytal, and Piericidin A.
  • Complex III (Cytochrome bc1 complex) inhibitors: Antimycin A and Dimercaprol.
  • Complex IV (Cytochrome c oxidase) inhibitors: Cyanide, Carbon monoxide, and Azide.
  • ATP synthase inhibitor: Oligomycin.
1b

Sketch the flowchart of Glycogenesis pathway.

3 marks

Answer

Glycogenesis is the process of glycogen synthesis from glucose. The pathway involves the following sequence of reactions:

  1. Glucose is phosphorylated to Glucose-6-phosphate by hexokinase or glucokinase.
  2. Glucose-6-phosphate is converted to Glucose-1-phosphate by phosphoglucomutase.
  3. Glucose-1-phosphate reacts with UTP to form UDP-glucose, catalyzed by UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase.
  4. Glycogen synthase adds glucose units from UDP-glucose to a pre-existing glycogen primer (glycogenin).
  5. Branching enzyme (amylo-(1,4→1,6)-transglycosylase) creates α-1,6-glycosidic linkages to form the branched structure of glycogen.
Glucose → Glucose-6-P → Glucose-1-P → UDP-Glucose → Glycogen
