JNTU B.Pharmacy III MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY-III Previous Question Paper (March-2024 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Write the MOA of β-lactamase inhibitors.
Answer
β-lactamase inhibitors act as suicide substrates or mechanism-based inhibitors. They bind irreversibly to the active site serine residue of the β-lactamase enzyme, forming a stable acyl-enzyme intermediate that prevents the enzyme from hydrolyzing the β-lactam ring of co-administered antibiotics.
Write the source and structural features of streptomycin.
Answer
Streptomycin is obtained from the fermentation of Streptomyces griseus. Its structural features include a streptidine moiety (a cyclohexane ring with two guanidino groups) linked via glycosidic bonds to streptose (a branched-chain sugar) and N-methyl-L-glucosamine.
