Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

(25 Marks)

125 marks
a

Explain Rapidly varied flow and gradually varied flow.

2 marks

Answer

Rapidly Varied Flow (RVF) is a flow where the depth of water changes abruptly over a very short distance, such as in a hydraulic jump. Gradually Varied Flow (GVF) is a steady non-uniform flow where the depth of water changes gradually along the length of the channel, such as backwater curves.

b

What is specific energy curve?

3 marks

Answer

A specific energy curve is a graphical representation showing the relationship between the specific energy (E) and the depth of flow (y) for a given discharge in an open channel. It typically shows two depths (alternate depths) for a given specific energy value, except at the critical depth where the energy is minimum.
