JNTU B.Tech II STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS I Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
What are the assumptions made in the analysis of a simple truss.
Answer
The assumptions are: 1) The truss members are connected by frictionless pin joints. 2) Loads are applied only at the joints. 3) The truss is composed of straight members forming triangles. 4) The self-weight of members is neglected or distributed equally to joints.
What is the advantage of method of section over method of joints?
Answer
The method of sections is more efficient when the forces in only a few specific members are required. Unlike the method of joints, which requires solving for all members sequentially starting from a support, the method of sections allows direct calculation of internal forces in any chosen member by cutting the truss and applying equilibrium equations to the resulting segment.
