Part A

1.a

Do you feel that you have some pre-conditionings? How do you evaluate them?

2 marks

Answer

Yes, pre-conditionings are the beliefs, assumptions, and notions we have acquired from our family, society, education, and environment without personal verification. They act as a filter through which we perceive the world, often leading to biased judgments or reactive behaviors.

To evaluate them, one must engage in self-exploration. This involves questioning the source and validity of these beliefs by checking them against one's own natural acceptance. If a pre-conditioning aligns with universal human values and leads to harmony within oneself and with others, it is considered conducive to right understanding; if it creates conflict or confusion, it must be discarded or refined through conscious reflection.

1.b

What do you mean by values? How do they differ from skills? How are values and skills complementary?

3 marks

Answer

Values refer to the fundamental principles, beliefs, or standards that guide human behavior, decision-making, and the determination of what is considered desirable or right in life. They provide the basis for ethical conduct and personal integrity.

Skills, in contrast, refer to the technical competence, proficiency, or ability to perform specific tasks or functions effectively. While values define the 'why' and the 'what' of our actions, skills define the 'how'.

Values and skills are complementary because skills without values can lead to destructive outcomes, as the individual may use their expertise for unethical purposes. Conversely, values without skills may remain ineffective, as the individual lacks the practical ability to implement their good intentions. True professional excellence requires the synergy of both: values provide the direction and purpose, while skills provide the means to achieve those goals in a sustainable and beneficial manner.
