JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II Year COMPUTER ORGANIZATION Previous Question Paper (April - 2018 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART A
Define different types of interrupts.
Answer
Interrupts are classified into three main types: Hardware interrupts, which are initiated by external devices via hardware pins; Software interrupts, which are triggered by specific instructions within a program; and Exceptions (or traps), which are generated internally by the processor due to errors or exceptional conditions like division by zero.
What are the different status bit conditions?
Answer
Status bits (flags) indicate the outcome of arithmetic and logical operations. Common conditions include: Carry Flag (CF) for carry/borrow out of the MSB; Zero Flag (ZF) set if the result is zero; Sign Flag (SF) set if the result is negative; Parity Flag (PF) indicating the parity of the result; and Overflow Flag (OF) indicating a signed arithmetic overflow.
