Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define self-inductance.
Answer
Self-inductance is the property of a coil by which it opposes any change in the current flowing through it. It is defined as the ratio of the flux linkage to the current producing it, given by L = NΦ / I, where N is the number of turns, Φ is the magnetic flux, and I is the current.
What is coefficient of coupling?
Answer
The coefficient of coupling (k) is a measure of the magnetic coupling between two coils, representing the fraction of the total magnetic flux produced by one coil that links with the other. It is defined as k = M / sqrt(L1L2), where M is the mutual inductance and L1, L2 are the self-inductances of the coils. Its value ranges from 0 to 1.
