B.Tech | II Year | I | R18 | April/May - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 153AUMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

Summarize the methods of Measurements.

2 marks

Answer

Measurement methods are primarily classified into two categories based on how the measurement is obtained:

  • Direct Methods: The physical quantity is measured directly by comparing it with a standard unit (e.g., measuring length with a scale or weight with a balance). These are simple but often less accurate due to human observation errors.
  • Indirect Methods: The physical quantity is determined by measuring other related quantities through a mathematical relationship or a transducer system (e.g., measuring temperature using a thermocouple or pressure using a strain gauge). These are essential for quantities that cannot be measured directly.
1b

What are the IEEE standards? and where they used?

3 marks

Answer

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards are a set of technical specifications and protocols developed to ensure consistency, interoperability, and safety across various engineering disciplines. These standards define common languages, interfaces, and performance metrics for hardware, software, and communication systems.

They are used extensively in the following areas:

  • Networking and Telecommunications: The IEEE 802 series is the foundation for local and metropolitan area networks, including Ethernet (802.3) and Wi-Fi (802.11).
  • Instrumentation and Measurement: The IEEE 488 standard, also known as GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus), is widely used for connecting programmable instruments to computers in automated test environments.
  • Software Engineering: Standards such as IEEE 829 provide guidelines for software testing documentation and quality assurance processes.
  • Power and Energy: Standards govern the design, protection, and safety of electrical power systems and grid infrastructure.
