B.Tech | II | I | R16 | April/May - 2018

Answer PaperPaper Code: 133BZMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART A

125 marks
a

Define accuracy, resolution and sensitivity.

2 marks

Answer

Accuracy is the closeness with which an instrument reading approaches the true value of the variable being measured. Resolution is the smallest change in the input variable that produces a detectable change in the instrument output. Sensitivity is the ratio of the change in output of the instrument to the corresponding change in the input variable.

b

Write the international standards of voltage, current and frequency.

3 marks

Answer

The international standards are maintained by the BIPM: 1. Voltage: Defined by the Josephson effect, using the Josephson constant KJ = 483597.9 GHz/V. 2. Current: Defined by the Quantum Hall effect, relating current to the fundamental charge and Planck's constant. 3. Frequency: Defined by the transition between two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the Cesium-133 atom, where 1 Hz is one cycle per second.

c

Define the order of an instrument and give examples for 0th, 1st and 2nd order instruments.
