B.Tech | II | II | R13 | April - 2018

Answer PaperPaper Code: 114ANMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Write the working principle of LVDT.

2 marks

Answer

The LVDT operates on the principle of mutual induction. It consists of a primary winding and two secondary windings wound on a hollow cylindrical former. When an AC excitation is applied to the primary, the movement of a magnetic core changes the flux linkage between the primary and the secondary windings, producing a differential output voltage proportional to the core displacement.

b

What is the principle of electromagnetic velocity sensors?

3 marks

Answer

Electromagnetic velocity sensors operate on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductor moves through a magnetic field, an electromotive force (EMF) is induced in the conductor. The magnitude of this induced voltage is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux, which is proportional to the velocity of the moving member.

c
