Answer PaperPaper Code: 125EKMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART - A

a

Why the capacitor in an RC high-pass circuit is called a blocking capacitor?

2 marks

Answer

The capacitor in an RC high-pass circuit is called a blocking capacitor because it acts as an open circuit to DC signals (zero frequency), effectively blocking any DC component from reaching the output while allowing AC components to pass.

b

How can the rate of rise of a pulse be measured by using a differentiator?

3 marks

Answer

A differentiator produces an output voltage proportional to the rate of change of the input signal, defined by the formula:

vo(t) = RC(dvi/dt)

By measuring the peak output voltage during the transition of a pulse, the slope or rate of rise (dv/dt) can be calculated if the RC time constant is known.
