Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. Part A is compulsory (25 marks). In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit (10 marks each).

Part A

1a

What are the challenges in mobile computing?

2 marks

Answer

The primary challenges in mobile computing include limited bandwidth, which restricts data transmission speeds, and frequent disconnections due to the dynamic nature of mobile environments. Additionally, mobile devices face constrained resources such as limited battery life, processing power, and storage capacity, alongside security vulnerabilities arising from the open nature of wireless communication and the increased risk of device theft or loss.

1b

List out the features of infrared transmission.

3 marks

Answer

Infrared (IR) transmission is a wireless communication technology that uses electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light. Its key features include:

  • Line-of-Sight Requirement: IR signals require a direct, unobstructed path between the transmitter and receiver, as they cannot penetrate walls or solid objects.
  • High Security: Due to the line-of-sight limitation and the inability of signals to pass through opaque barriers, IR communication is inherently secure against eavesdropping from outside the immediate room.
  • Low Cost and Simplicity: IR hardware is inexpensive to manufacture and simple to implement, making it ideal for short-range applications like remote controls, though it is susceptible to interference from ambient light sources such as sunlight or fluorescent lamps.
