JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II THERMODYNAMICS AND KINETICS Previous Question Paper (May/June - 2019 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
State any two limitations of thermodynamics.
Answer
Thermodynamics does not provide information about the rate at which a process occurs, and it cannot predict the mechanism or the path by which a system reaches equilibrium.
Explain the relationship between heat and work.
Answer
Heat and work are both forms of energy in transit across system boundaries. Heat is energy transfer driven by a temperature gradient, while work is energy transfer driven by a force acting through a distance. According to the first law of thermodynamics, both are path functions and are equivalent in their ability to change the internal energy of a system.
Define second law of thermodynamics.
