JNTU B.Pharmacy I PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS-I Previous Question Paper (January-2020 - R17)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART-A
Define primary standards with examples.
Answer
A primary standard is a highly pure, stable, and non-hygroscopic substance that can be weighed accurately to prepare a solution of known concentration. Examples include anhydrous sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP).
How do you prepare 0.1N hydrochloric acid and 0.02 M potassium permanganate solutions?
Answer
To prepare 0.1N HCl: Dilute approximately 8.5 mL of concentrated HCl (approx. 12N) to 1000 mL with distilled water and standardize against sodium carbonate. To prepare 0.02 M KMnO4: Dissolve 3.16 g of KMnO4 in 1000 mL of distilled water, boil for 15 minutes, filter, and standardize against sodium oxalate.
