Answer PaperPaper Code: 241ABMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

What is Standardization and end point?

2 marks

Answer

Standardization is the process of determining the exact concentration of a solution by titrating it against a known quantity of a primary standard. The end point is the point in a titration at which a physical change, such as a color change of an indicator, occurs, signaling that the chemical reaction is complete.

b

Distinguish between primary and secondary standards.

3 marks

Answer

Primary standards are substances of high purity, stable in air, and possess a high molar mass, used to prepare solutions of accurately known concentration directly by weighing. Secondary standards are substances whose concentration cannot be determined directly by weighing due to instability or impurity; their concentration must be determined by standardization against a primary standard.
