JNTU B.Pharmacy I PHARMACEUTICAL INORGANIC CHEMISTRY-I Previous Question Paper (December- 2018/ January-2019 - R17)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Write the principle involved in limit test of lead.
Answer
The limit test for lead is based on the reaction of lead ions with diphenylthiocarbazone (dithizone) in an alkaline solution to form a lead-dithizone complex, which is a red-colored substance. This complex is extracted into an organic solvent like chloroform, and its intensity is compared with a standard lead solution.
Write the modifications of limit test for chlorides.
Answer
Modifications for the limit test of chlorides include:
- Use of specific reagents to prevent interference from other ions.
- Adjustment of pH to ensure the precipitation of silver chloride is optimal.
- Addition of nitric acid to prevent the precipitation of other acid-insoluble silver salts like phosphates or carbonates.
Give a note on desensitizing agents.
