JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Pharmacy I Year PHARMACEUTICAL INORGANIC CHEMISTRY-I Previous Question Paper (January-2020 - R17)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
Describe the principle of limit test of chloride.
Answer
The limit test for chloride is based on the chemical reaction between chloride ions and silver nitrate in the presence of dilute nitric acid. This results in the formation of silver chloride, which appears as an opalescence or turbidity in the solution. The intensity of this turbidity is compared against a standard solution to determine if the chloride content is within the permissible limit.
Briefly write about the limit test for Sulphate.
Answer
The limit test for sulphate is based on the reaction of sulphate ions with barium chloride in the presence of dilute hydrochloric acid. This reaction produces barium sulphate, which forms a white turbidity. The test is performed by comparing the turbidity produced by the sample with that of a standard sulphate solution under identical conditions.
