JNTU B.Pharmacy II PHYSICAL PHARMACEUTICS-I Previous Question Paper (September 2024 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What are eutectic mixtures? Give two examples.
Answer
Eutectic mixtures are solid mixtures of two or more substances that possess a melting point lower than the melting points of the individual components. This phenomenon occurs at a specific composition known as the eutectic composition, where the mixture liquefies at the eutectic temperature.
Examples include:
- Menthol and Camphor
- Thymol and Salol
Define optical rotation and dissociation constants with examples.
Answer
Optical rotation is the property of certain substances, known as optically active compounds, to rotate the plane of polarized light as it passes through them. This is measured using a polarimeter. For example, a solution of dextrose (D-glucose) rotates plane-polarized light to the right (dextrorotatory).
Dissociation constant (Ka or Kb) is a quantitative measure of the extent to which a weak electrolyte dissociates into its constituent ions in a solvent at equilibrium. It indicates the strength of an acid or base. For example, the dissociation of acetic acid in water is represented by the equilibrium constant Ka = [CH3COO-][H+] / [CH3COOH].
Define relative humidity and latent heat.
