JNTU B.Tech III COMPUTER ORGANIZATION AND OPERATING SYSTEMS Previous Question Paper (May - 2018 - R13)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
Classify the Arithmetic Micro operations.
Answer
Arithmetic micro-operations are classified based on the arithmetic functions they perform: Addition (e.g., R1 ← R1 + R2), Subtraction (e.g., R1 ← R1 + R2' + 1), Increment (e.g., R1 ← R1 + 1), Decrement (e.g., R1 ← R1 - 1), and Arithmetic Shift (e.g., shifting bits left or right while preserving the sign bit).
Explain the role of program counter in Instruction execution.
Answer
The Program Counter (PC) is a register that holds the address of the next instruction to be fetched from memory. During instruction execution, the PC is updated to point to the subsequent instruction after the current one is fetched, ensuring the sequential flow of program execution. If a branch or jump instruction occurs, the PC is loaded with the target address to alter the execution sequence.
