Answer PaperPaper Code: 123CBMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART- A

125 marks
a

What is the function of variable manipulation element in an instrument?

2 marks

Answer

The variable manipulation element performs the function of changing the signal representation or magnitude to a form more suitable for the next stage of the measurement system, such as amplification, attenuation, or filtering, without changing the information content of the signal.

b

Define the class of Standards available for use and Calibration process.

3 marks

Answer

Standards are categorized into four classes: International Standards (defined by international agreement), Primary Standards (maintained by national laboratories), Secondary Standards (used by industrial labs for calibration), and Working Standards (used for daily bench calibration). Calibration is the process of comparing an instrument of unknown accuracy against a higher-accuracy standard to detect, report, and eliminate errors by adjusting the instrument's output.
