Main
Write all the AC characteristics of op-amp.
Answer
The AC characteristics of an operational amplifier define its performance under dynamic or time-varying signal conditions. The key characteristics include:
- Frequency Response: The open-loop gain of an op-amp decreases as frequency increases due to internal compensation capacitors. The gain-bandwidth product (GBW) is constant for a given op-amp.
- Slew Rate (SR): This is the maximum rate of change of the output voltage per unit time, expressed in V/µs. It limits the ability of the op-amp to track fast-changing signals.
- Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): The ratio of differential gain to common-mode gain, indicating the ability of the op-amp to reject noise signals common to both inputs.
- Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR): The ability of the op-amp to maintain its output voltage despite variations in the power supply voltage.
- Full Power Bandwidth: The maximum frequency at which the op-amp can produce its maximum undistorted output voltage swing.
What are the two closed loop configurations of an Op-Amp, obtain the gains in both the cases.
Answer
The two primary closed-loop configurations of an op-amp are the inverting amplifier and the non-inverting amplifier.
1. Inverting Amplifier: In this configuration, the input signal is applied to the inverting terminal (-) through a resistor R1, while the non-inverting terminal (+) is grounded. A feedback resistor Rf connects the output to the inverting input.
The negative sign indicates a 180-degree phase shift between input and output.
2. Non-Inverting Amplifier: In this configuration, the input signal is applied directly to the non-inverting terminal (+). A voltage divider network consisting of resistors R1 and Rf is connected from the output to the inverting terminal to provide negative feedback.
In this configuration, the output is in phase with the input signal. The gain is always greater than or equal to unity.
