Answer any Five Questions. All Questions Carry Equal Marks.
Main
Explain the following methods in the plane table surveying.
Radiation
Answer
Radiation is the simplest method of plane table surveying, used when the entire area is visible from a single station point. The plane table is set up at a central point O, and the board is leveled and centered. A ray is drawn from O towards various points (A, B, C, D) on the ground using an alidade. The distances are measured from O to these points and plotted to a suitable scale along the rays. The points are then joined to represent the area.
Intersection
Answer
Intersection, also known as the graphical triangulation method, is used when points are inaccessible or separated by obstacles like rivers or valleys. The table is set up at two stations, A and B, and the baseline AB is measured and plotted. Rays are drawn from both stations towards the inaccessible point P. The intersection of these two rays on the drawing sheet defines the position of point P to scale. This method is ideal for locating hilltops or features across obstacles.

In order to carry out tacheometric surveying, following observations were taken through a tacheometer set up at station P at a height 1.235m. Compute the horizontal distance of S from P and reduced level of station at S if R.L. of station P is 262.575m.
| Staff held at | Horizontal distance from P (m) | Staff Reading (m) | Angle of Elevation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q | 100 | 1.01 | 0° |
| R | 200 | 2.03 | 0° |
| S | ? | 3.465, 2.275, 1.280 | 5° 24' 40" |
