Answer PaperPaper Code: 124DHMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

PART - A

125 marks
a

Explain the time constant of series R-L circuit.

2 marks

Answer

The time constant of a series R-L circuit is the time required for the current to reach approximately 63.2% of its final steady-state value when a DC voltage is applied. It is defined as the ratio of inductance to resistance, given by the formula:

τ = L / R

where τ is in seconds, L is in Henrys, and R is in Ohms.

b

Write the current equation of RC circuit for step response in transient state condition.

3 marks

Answer

For an RC circuit with a step voltage V applied at t=0, the current i(t) during the transient state is given by:

i(t) = (V / R) * e^(-t / RC)

where R is the resistance, C is the capacitance, and RC is the time constant of the circuit.
