Answer PaperPaper Code: 115ENMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Differentiate computer organization and architecture.

2 marks

Answer

Computer Architecture refers to the attributes of a system visible to the programmer, such as instruction sets, addressing modes, and data types. Computer Organization refers to the operational units and their interconnections that realize the architectural specifications, such as control signals, memory technology, and hardware implementation details.

b

Represent decimal number 6027 in i) BCD ii) excess-3 code

3 marks

Answer

i) BCD representation: Each digit is represented by its 4-bit binary equivalent: 6=0110, 0=0000, 2=0010, 7=0111. Thus, 6027 = 0110 0000 0010 0111.

ii) Excess-3 code: Add 3 to each digit and convert to 4-bit binary: 6+3=9 (1001), 0+3=3 (0011), 2+3=5 (0101), 7+3=10 (1010). Thus, 6027 = 1001 0011 0101 1010.
