JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II POWER SYSTEMS I Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
What is the need of super heater?
Answer
A superheater is used to increase the temperature of saturated steam beyond its boiling point. This increases the overall thermal efficiency of the power plant and prevents condensation of steam in the final stages of the turbine, thereby reducing blade erosion.
What is mean by Nuclear Fission?
Answer
Nuclear fission is a process in which the nucleus of a heavy atom, such as Uranium-235, is split into two or more smaller, lighter nuclei upon bombardment by a neutron. This reaction releases a significant amount of energy in the form of heat, along with additional neutrons and radiation.

A single phase distributor ABC fed at A. The power factors are lagging and expressed relative to the voltage at the far end. The impedances between the sections AB and BC is (0.2 + j 0.1) Ω. If the voltage at the far end is 240 V, calculate the voltage at the supply end and also its phase angle with respect to the far end.
