JNTU B.Tech II POWER SYSTEMS I Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
What is the use of condenser in thermal power station?
Answer
The condenser is used to condense the exhaust steam from the turbine into water, creating a high vacuum at the turbine exhaust. This increases the thermal efficiency of the plant by maximizing the pressure drop across the turbine and allows the condensate to be reused as boiler feed water.
What is the necessity of moderator in nuclear power station?
Answer
The moderator is necessary to slow down the high-speed neutrons produced during nuclear fission. By reducing their kinetic energy to thermal levels, the moderator increases the probability of these neutrons causing further fission in U-235 atoms, thereby sustaining the chain reaction.
